For unknown reasons, a lot of individuals associate holidays with travelling abroad. While planning their holidays, they often don’t even contemplate amazing cities in their own country. Rather than this, they buy trips to places abroad, without even thinking about going somewhere in their own country. Because of that, many people are not familiar with their own country. They have many memories and experiences from foreign countires, but when somebody asks them about their own country, it turns out that they don’t know almost anything about attractive places there.
Thus, this brief text, would try to inspire you to spend your holiday in a little different manner this year. What if, instead of leaving abroad again, you would decide to discover extraordinary spots based in your own country? Let’s assume, that you come from the south of Poland. There is a big chance, that you are sure that you already know a lot about your country and you take into consideration other parts of it to be very similar to your town. However, this may be a mistake (find out more information). What is the reason? the reason is very simple. Because if you come from the South of Poland, this may be much closer to, for instance, Czech Republic, that to Gdynia. Due to that, even though the language varies, there is a huge chance that the culture or food you are familiar with, are more similar to those of neighboring country, than to other side of Poland.
In consequence, why won’t you take flights to Gdansk this summer. This part of Poland has a lot to offer. E.g., do you know the outstanding history of Gdansk? For many years it has been 1 of the proudest Polish cities. City, which stayed independent for many years. City, where the history of Solidarnosc movement started. I am positive, that you already are aware of it from history classes in school (click). However, how much you certainly know about it? Would you be able to explain this story for any foreigner who asks you about it? And what when it comes to the local cuisine? Did you know that it has a great deal more to offer than only fish? What about other parts of Poland? Perhaps you would prefer to take flights to Katowice? Have you ever heard that it is the largest metropolitan region in Central and Eastern Europe?
I wish that all of those listed questions will become an inspiration for your holiday detination this year. Instead of choosing a foreign country, why not to try to discover your own country. Act like a tourist, not like a local. Stay curious, keep an open mind. Pose questions, do your best to understand local history, try local food. I believe that you would discover that every city has its own amazing atmosphere, which might be even more interesting than trip abroad!
